I am married to my best friend and feel blessed to have him as a partner in our adventurous, chaotic, and beautiful life. We are a blended family with seven kids (ages 28, 27, 24, 23, 20, 16, and 8). I brought three, he brought three, and we adopted our youngest. We have been married for a little over 12 years.
I graduated from High Point University with a degree in psychology and then decided to get a teaching license in special education. I taught special education in a high school setting, instructing students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, down syndrome, and autism. Teaching students who received occupational, physical, and speech therapy afforded me the opportunity to learn side-by-side from many talented therapists. I continue to learn from the therapists who are now working with my son.
I am not a speech, occupational, or physical therapist. I have learned from them as a teacher and from my own experience as a mom of a son with autism. I am not a feeding therapist, but I have experienced the concerns and desperation that a parent feels. I am not a certified ABA therapist. I have worked with behaviorists and have experience conducting and writing Functional Behavioral Assessments, as a teacher. I am also not a licensed psychologist, therapist, or psychiatrist. I do love all things behavior. That is probably what drew me to pursuing a degree in psychology.
I am a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom), homeschooling my eight year old son with autism, and have a desire to help others who are on the same journey.
